The name Shand  is quite popular when it comes to motorcycle race paddock, Looking back over the years, we have seen les Shand, frontrunner at road races, and we cannot forget the sidecar Shands who have been good supporters of the Sunflower Event, this year we have another Shand at the Sunflower, Lewis Shand, albeit, no relation to the aforementioned, but still has racing in his blood!

The 26 year old from Windygates in Scotland  will compete in the 600 supersport class on board his R6 Yamahas.

Now with 6 Scottish titles to his name, Lewis didn’t have the best of starts to his racing career!, His first event was at East Fortune, where he crashed out on the second lap !, admittedly, it was quite wet!

However the gritty rider didn’t let this get him down, and peservered, and the following season won the Pre Injection championship.

This will be Lewiss first visit to the sunflower races, and he is looking forward to learning a new circuit and absorbing the much talked about  atmosphere of the irish hospitality.

Lewis appreciates all the help he gets and Would like to thank his Dad most importantly as he couldnt race without his help, Bruce and Danny are a massive help too. Ian Sim, IPF Coatings, Wilsons Bodyshop, Drummond Motor Company, JG Builders, Bob Grant and Baz Johnstone.

Asked if he was in anyway connected to any of the Shands already involved in the sport, and this was his reply ;” I am no relation of Les Shand, although hope to be as quick as he was, and no relation to the sidecar Shands either.  Shand seems to be a common name around the paddock though”.
