Richard Cooper made the perfect start to his debut Sunflower Trophy Races at Bishopscourt Racing Circuit today, Cooper qualified in pole position then following this up with a win in the opening Superbike race of the weekend. Still on a high from his win at the final British Superbike races at Brands Hatch last week Cooper took the win on his Buildbase Suzuki 0.2 seconds ahead of former Sunflower Trophy winner Danny Buchan.

Buchan led from the start opening a gap on his MSS Kawasaki ahead of Tyco BMWs Michael Laverty but in the closing stages of the race Cooper reeled in Laverty then with a final effort managed to pass Buchan to take the win. Six times Trophy winner Michael Laverty was third.
