Is ANDERS LARRSON the first Swedish rider to compete at the Sunflower Trophy races? Im pretty sure he is, the 44 year old from a small village in South of Sweden called Teckomatorp, will make his Irish debut this weekend at the Bishopscourt circuit in the Moto 3 race at the Sunflower Trophy Race meeting.
I got in touch with Anders, and asked the Social Worker about his racing career and what enticed him to come to Ireland ;
“Thank You, I Started with racing in 1996 at club level and did step up to the Swedish and Nordic Championships 2 years later in the 250production class. After some season there I was one of the front runners in that class and got a contract with one of the Swedish top team, Nordgren Racing, to race for them in the 250GP class from the 2004 season. With them I did compeete in the Swedish, Nordic, Dutch, German and European Championships until they stop with this class.
From The 2010 season I started to concentrate on racing on the roads instead and to help the team as a mechanic at the race at home.
At one of the race in Czech Republic in 2010 I did race at I met Darren Gilpin and he offered me to race on one of his bikes over in Northern Ireland and I did that up to 2013. At those race people did say ‘-you should do the Sunflower’ and that was the first time I did hear of this race.
One of the people I did meet in N.I was Tony with his youtube chanel ‘Behind the bubble’ and he was at the big continental races as Horice and Terlicko and when he did his interweiw with me he always ask ‘-when do we see you do a comeback to N.I and race?’ So it was him that did get me to start to think to go back and I wanted to surprize him with that. Sadly did he surprize us all to pass away last year. So that I did decide to go to Northern Ireland this year I dedicate for him!
At Ulster Grand Prix this year I did get to hear the ‘-you should do the Sunflower’ again.
After hearing that so many times I believe this race must be something special. So now I did send in the entry for it.
It will be my first time at the Sunflower race and also my first time to race on a short circuit in N.I. Many of the racers over in Sweden today dont even know there is short circuit and Championships in N.I. They believe its only race on the roads. Think the last time someone from Sweden did race on a short circuit here was in the earls 90’s when Kirkistown did held one of the round in the European Championship. So its on time that someone is coming over from Sweden again! And I looking forward for it! 🙂
I Will race in the moto3/125gp class.
To make this season possible over in N.I I must say a big thank to the DRW Team with Dave Walsh that did let me have a place at his workshop and for all the hospitalety from Him and his wife Rosie! And a big thank to the Nordgren Racing team for the wee bike I got to race on and there sponsors of Bridgestone Sweden, VP Racing Fuels and BOOVE with there products from Motul, Afam and Probolt. And My own sponsors of Emmy Rich, fotohenke and Kalle.P.
