CHIEFS at the Cookstown 100 have revealed that the Junior Support class will remain on their racing programme for the 2020 season.
The category has been in doubt since calls were made to axe it from the road racing calendar next year, but a number of club officials have moved to keep the up-and-comers’ proving ground running.
A statement from Cookstown’s Club Chairman John Dillon reads:
“Cookstown club would like to clarify to riders and sponsors that after considering the safety of riders, value for money for travelling riders to attend our event, the Cookstown club are prepared to run the Junior support class as per recent years.
“It will have to be as a non championship class at our event as we are currently the only club to be taking this approach to the decision which has been made within the centres.
“The club wishes to stress that this is a move by the club to continue to allow the experience for new and upcoming riders and needs to be supported if our road racing heritage is to continue.”
