Ronan Cunningham from Portstewart is organising a ‘Supercar Sunday’ fundraiser on Sunday 15 August 2021 which will bring together all types of car enthusiasts from across NI together for two local and well-loved charities, Air Ambulance Northern Ireland, and the Northern Ireland Hospice.

The event will take place at Bishopscourt Racecourse, Downpatrick, the owners of which have kindly donated their circuit and grounds and will see hundreds of cars parked up on display.

It will not only be high performance luxury supercars on site this year, but also classic and vintage cars on display.

Ronan Cunningham said, “The event was initially planned to take place in 2020 but had to be cancelled due to the health pandemic. The supercars will include Ferrari’s, Porsche, Lamborghini, McLaren, and Aston Marten to name a few. Spectators will be able to see these exotic machines exceptional performance in action on two occasions – the first when they drive around North Coast and come through Portstewart promenade at approximately midday on Saturday 14 August and then at Bishopscourt Racing Circuit on Sunday 15 August 2021 when they will do laps and be on display. It will be a brilliant spectacle to see the supercars together and of course the additional display of classic and vintage cars at Bishopscourt. Refreshments will be available on site, so it is set to be a fantastic family day out. We encourage everyone to put the date in the diary and come along for two amazing causes.”

All car clubs who are interested in attending Bishopscourt on Sunday 15 August should contact event organiser Ronan Cunningham through the event Facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/pages/category/Charity-Organization/Air-Ambulance-NI-NI-Hospice-Supercar-Sunday-313162342685009/

Public admission is £10 per adult which will all benefit the two charities, with children accompanied by a paying adult having free entry.

Each of the charities is delighted that it is now back on track as fundraising has been severely impacted.

The charity Air Ambulance Northern Ireland, in partnership with the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service, provides the Helicopter Emergency Medical Service for Northern Ireland. The service brings urgent medical assistance to anywhere in the province, operating 365 days of the year. It can get to anywhere in Northern Ireland in approximately twenty-five minutes and is needed on average twice per day with a fundraising need of £2million each year.

The Northern Ireland Hospice has been delivering specialist palliative care to local people across Northern Ireland for over 39 years. Hospice’s care services both in the community and in our specialist in patient units, provide high quality, person-centred, holistic palliative care, support and care for babies, children and adults who are adjusting to life living with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions, up to their death and into family bereavement support. £16m is required for Northern Ireland Hospice and Children’s Hospice to deliver its services each year. Government fund around 30% of the cost with the remaining £11.5m generated through corporate support, shops and fundraising activities.
