Motor Cycle Road Racing Club of Ireland promote the 46th Enkalon Trophy Races and round 2 of the 2022 Ulster Superbike Championship, this
coming Saturday 16th April at Bishopscourt Racing Circuit. The club also celebrate their 60th year in promoting motorcycle racing.
Relatively a young club but have had plenty of experience in promoting races, first at Maghaberry then the first event at Aghadowey in 1975.
This event was dominated by the Armoy Armada of Frank Kennedy, Mervyn Robinson, Joey Dunlop. Mervyn won the Embassy Championship
race from Joey. Frank went on to win the 500cc race and Mervyn the 350cc. Ray McCullough was in the mix until he retired with machine
trouble. The MCRRCI also was the first club to promote an event at the redesigned Bishopscourt Circuit on 14th March 1992. Leslie McMaster
taking the inaugural win of the revived course on a Team Wood 350cc Yamaha. The last 30yrs we have had the support of the Killinchy &
District MCC suppling manpower to help manage the running of events.
We have attracted a superb entry for this prestigious Enkalon Trophy event. Attracting entries from England, Scotland, Wales, IOM and
southern Ireland competitors. Leading the local entry is Carrickfergus Alastair Seeley who with the form he showed at round one of the
championship, will be looking to be the first rider to win the Enkalon Trophy for the fourth time and do the double back-to-back wins! Carl
Phillips 2019 Trophy winner will be trying to notch another win with Jason Lynn giving them both a challenge. Gary McCoy, Ryan Gibson, Aaron
Spence, Matthew Caughey, Kyle Cross should be in the mix of runner up slots. Superbike Cup riders Daniel Matheson, David Ambrose,
Alexander Clarke will be aiming for top ten finishes and podium of the Cup class.
The Enkalon Trophy has the History of Irish Motorcycle Racing ingrained into it, previous winners such as McCullough, Hughes, Farlow,
McClements, Rea, Irwin, Cowan, Robert Dunlop, McCallen, McCurdy, Swann, Seeley. A number of these riders have won it more than twice
and it is Irelands longest running Trophy.
The featured 46th Enkalon Trophy is for the Superbike class will be contested over two 10 lap races with the overall point scorer collecting the
Prize.
Supersport class once again Alastair Seeley must be the favourite, Mike Browne was the only rider who was within a second of Seeley at
round one. Mark Conlin, Christian Elkin, Joey Thompson should be chasing podium positions. Supersport cup riders Michael Gahan, Gary Scott,
Keith Anderson, Eoin O Siochru rode well at round one and will be hoping to follow up on their performances. Its more than likely that the
overall Supersport Cup class winners will come from the Pro races.
The Production twins class also has a great entry, several riders could take the laurels, Gareth Morrell, Josh Rae and Tom Greenwood top the
championship leader board after round one.
Jeremy McWilliams leads the Supertwin championship from Ryan Gibson and Michael Gillan, so vital points are available on Easter Saturday.
Team Wood Motorcycle Youth Academy rider Lee Hara is fifth in the championship will improve as the rounds click off.
The Easter Saturday event caters for Moto-One and SS300, classes which run concurrently, these classes is for some of our youngest
competitors who can start racing at 12yrs. MCRRCI will be keeping a watchful eye on their Team Wood Motorcycle Youth Academy riders.
Ruben Boyd, Kai McClintock, Callum Clint, Bailey Dobson, Cory Barron, Martin Burnett, Alex McCalmont and Dean Graham. All these young
riders are names to watch out for now and in years to come. Some other young riders are Sammy jo Crossett, Nicky Burns. Ross Moore and
Jack Burrows in the Moto 3 class.
Other race classes on the program, Pre-Injection, Lightweight Supersports plus the Cup races. Podium presentations after the second race for
Enkalon Trophy.
